Fertility Screening Singapore: How is a Woman’s Fertility Tested?

Usually, the main reason to test for fertility in a woman is if she is having issues conceiving. This might manifest itself as the woman not being able to get pregnant, or it might just manifest itself as extremely long menstrual cycles (over 35 days).

Another possible indication that a fertility screening in Singapore may be warranted would be if the woman complains of pain during intercourse. This can sometimes be indicative of endometriosis, which could prevent pregnancy from occurring naturally.

We also usually recommend fertility screening in Singapore at Advanced Centre For Reproductive Medicine when there is pregnancy loss or the woman is just worried about her being able to conceive. If someone has miscarried once, there is likely at least one issue with their body that will easily prevent them from getting pregnant again. It is important to determine the reason for this pregnancy loss and then identify how that might be corrected.

When should I Start Testing for Fertility?

Usually, your physician will advise on when it’s best for you to begin fertility screening in Singapore. An example of when a woman might require fertility testing would be if she had been on birth control pills for four years continuously (many women ask us this).

If they were on the pill continuously, it means they did not have regular menstrual cycles while taking them. This often causes irregular periods post-pill and can make it difficult to get pregnant (or maintain a pregnancy) without proper testing and treatment. Also, if a woman is over the age of 30 and has been experiencing some of the issues described above (irregular cycles, pain during intercourse), she might require fertility tests.

Fertility testing is extremely important in some cases because fertility treatments can significantly increase the chances of getting pregnant naturally. An example would be couples who are undergoing IUI or IVF procedures. These procedures are expensive, but having been properly tested for infertility is important. Any time you are going to be spending a large amount of money on increasing your chances of getting pregnant, it is very much worth it to find out what the underlying issue might be that is preventing you from conceiving naturally.

Which Tests are Available to Determine Fertility?

The options of fertility screening in Singapore include semen analysis for men and ovulation predictor kits for women. A semen analysis consists of two parts: a sperm count and motility test and a morphology test.

The first part checks how many sperm cells there are in a certain amount of seminal fluid, while the second looks at how well these cells move. If they do not swim properly, it will be difficult for them to fertilize an egg that may have been released from one of the ovaries after an ovulation predictor test is positive.

A woman can use an ovulation predictor kit, which measures estrogen and progesterone levels in her urine over the course of several days (usually five or six). This tests for two things: when a woman’s body has reached a certain level of these hormones, she is entering the most fertile time in her menstrual cycle; and if this hormone is spiking, it means that one of the ovaries will release an egg at some point in the next 12-24 hours. If both tests are negative, it may be worthwhile to look into fertility medications to boost your chances of conceiving naturally before other methods are attempted.

What are Other Types of Fertility Testing?

There are many types of fertility testing available. Some women will require blood tests, imaging studies (such as an MRI), and more invasive testing to evaluate their infertility issues.

For example, if a woman has trouble conceiving because of damage done to her fallopian tubes by pelvic inflammatory disease, it is important that this be detected early. This way, it will be easier for the proper treatment to be started in a timely fashion.

What do I need to Know about Fertility Testing?

Fertility testing should only be done when you have reason to believe your body might not be letting you get pregnant in the right way. As we stated above, if someone is going through a lot of difficulty conceiving and is planning to use medication for this purpose, it is important that they make sure the cause of their infertility has been properly diagnosed.

If you are considering using fertility drugs or procedures, you should know that these can have side effects and may not be for everyone. Talk with your doctor before attempting any fertility treatment so that you understand what you are getting into.

Can I Check my Fertility at Home?

While a woman can purchase an ovulation predictor kit without a prescription, the accuracy of these kits is very low. It is not recommended that women use this for their primary means of fertility testing because it does not provide professional results compared to those from a doctor.

While at-home semen analysis kits are available as well, they test only one aspect of fertility and do not tell you much more about your overall situation- again; it is best to consult with a physician if you believe there might be an issue with your sperm or egg production due to age or injury.

If you suspect anything wrong with your fertility and want to be sure, see your doctor as soon as possible. Your health and ability to conceive should always come first! You should also plan to speak with your doctor about any medications you are taking, as these can sometimes have unintended consequences for your fertility.

What if both Partners are having Trouble Conceiving?

First of all, if you have been trying to conceive for more than a year with no luck, it is time to see your doctor. There are many potential issues that can contribute to fertility problems- both in men and women- so testing should be done right away. While there may be nothing medically wrong with either partner (or even both), it is important not to assume this at first glance.

The Bottom Line

Fertility screening in Singapore can be done in many different ways. Some are simple, some are more invasive, but the important thing is to ensure that if there are any issues preventing you from conceiving, they have been discovered quickly so that your doctor can help you get pregnant right away.
