Skin problems are common concerns people have around the globe. While some skin conditions can be annoying, others can possess life-threatening consequences. A report by the American Academy of Dermatology has revealed that over 50 million Americans have acne breakouts each year. Moreover, more than 7.5 million have psoriasis. The report further stated that every day, 9,500 Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer.

While there are plenty of dermatological procedures to treat skin conditions, red light skin therapy has emerged as an effective treatment. One can either take red light therapy in spas and clinics or in the comfort of their home.

This blog has discussed the LED light skin therapy in detail and listed down various skin conditions it can treat.

LED light therapy is often referred to as laser therapy, low-level laser therapy, red light therapy, infrared therapy, or photo biomodulation treatment. The light constitutes of wavelengths and colors. And each wavelength of the light penetrates the skin at different levels and triggers a different reaction. When infrared light rays penetrate the skin surface, it stimulates changes at the molecular level.

Studies and research have indicated that light therapy effectively stimulates cell regeneration and boosts the cells’ metabolism. Many tanning salons open near me harness the power of infrared light to reduce acne breakouts, reverse the signs of aging, and burn fat cells.

Various Skin Condition that Red-Light Therapy can Treat

    • Treatment for Acne

According to a study conducted by Lasers in Medical Science, it was concluded that red light and blue light effectively treat acne. Moreover, combining both red and blue lights offers better results. While blue light works on eliminating the bacteria from the skin’s surface, the red light reduces scarring, inflammation, and swelling. The red light also helps in boosting circulation that further decreases healing time. You can either visit a salon or clinic offering LED light therapy or use LED light therapy devices.

    • Treatment of Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder that causes painful skin condition and has no cure. In psoriasis, the skin produces skin cells rapidly. Since the skin cells don’t get enough time to shed the dead cells, they build up into scaly patches. These patches of dead cells are called plaques and cause pain.

LED light therapy has shown efficiency in controlling the symptoms of psoriasis and treating plaques. Unlike UV rays, red and blue lights don’t have any side effects on the skin; and, thus, completely safe.

    • Treatment of Eczema

Eczema is another common skin condition that can be treated with LED light therapy. In Eczema, the patient suffers from skin inflammation and the development of lesions. A study published in 2016 showed that LED light free from UV rays could significantly reduce the symptoms of Eczema and skin inflammation.

    • Treatment of Skin Cancer

Like any other form of cancer, skin cancer results due to the uncontrolled growth of cells. When damaged DNA mutates, it causes abnormal cells to grow and accumulate on the epidermis. Many dermatologists use the combination of medicines and photodynamic therapy to kill the cancer cells.
